Leitbild
Das Erich von Hornbostel Audio Emergence Lab (HAEL) stellt eine Lehr-, Demonstrations- und Forschungseinrichtung dar. Es kombiniert apparative, introspektive, phänomenologische und qualitative Verfahren. Sie werden auf audio-basierte kognitive Aufgaben und die resultierenden Prozesse und sozialen Interaktionen angewendet.
Ziel ist die Ermittlung und Beschreibung von emergenten Prozessen im Kontext musikalischer Situationen im weitesten Sinne. Dabei sollen die Paradigmen post-funktionalistischer neurokognitiver Forschungen geprüft und erweitert werden.
Strategisch siedelt sich das HAEL unter den Forschungslaboren an, die interventionistisch ausgerichtet sind, um zeitnah neue Versuchsformen umzusetzen. Es agiert komplementär zu den etablierten musikpsychologischen Laboren. Zudem fügt es sich in die am Institut bestehenden technischen Ressourcen ein (Signallabor, Medientheater, Arbeitsraum für Sound- und Medientechnologien, Videostudio).
Konstrukte der Social Cognition (Empathie, Autobiographie, social cognizing) und Phänomene wie enacting intersubjectivity sollen schrittweise empirisch modelliert und mittels hybrider Versuchs-Settings erschlossen werden. Längerfristig wird die nicht-reduktionistische Modellierung transkultureller Situationen angestrebt.
Auf der apparativen Seite werden zunächst psycho-physiologische Indikatoren und die elektrische Hirnaktivität (EEG) erfasst. Die Implementierung von hyper scanning wird angestrebt, um Phänomene der Synchronisation, joint action und Konsensualität abbilden und analysieren zu können. Darüber hinaus sollen Brain Computer Interface und Biofeedback-Verfahren entwickelt werden.
Forschungsmethodisch werden Verbindungen zur Akteur-Netzwerk-Theorie, zu musikalischen Mediations-theorien und zu den Kritischen Neurowissenschaften gesucht.
Damit werden im Erich von Hornbostel Audio Emergence Lab nicht nur die emergierenden Prozesse, sondern auch die medienepistemologische Form der Gewinnung von Daten thematisiert. Das Labor wird somit als spezifisches Arrangement von Akteuren, Expertisen, Technologien, Parametrisierungen und Objektivitäts-Standards erkennbar.
Mission Statement
HAEL serves for purposes of teaching, demonstration, and research. It combines apparatus-driven research with introspective, phenomenological and qualitative approaches. These will be applied to audio-based cognitive tasks and to the resulting processes and social interactions.
Our aim is to investigate emergent processes in the context of musical situations in the widest possible sense. Paradigms of post-functional neuro-cognitive research may thus be validated and possibly extended.
Strategically, HAEL can be grouped among the research labs with an interventionist orientation, enabling it to quickly develop new experimental modes. It complements existing music psychology labs and has, in addition, a place among the technical resources of the institute (signal lab, media theatre, working space for sound and media technologies, video studio).
HAEL plans to target constructs of social cognition (empathy, autobiography, social cognizing) and phenomena such as enacting inter-subjectivity by way of stepwise modellings and hybrid experimental settings. On the long run, HAEL intends to model transcultural situations in a non-reductive manner.
HAEL is equipped with systems for monitoring electrical brain activity (EEG), psycho-physiology and eye-tracking. The implementation of hyper scanning is aimed at exploring phenomena such as synchronization, joint action and con-sensuality. Beyond this, brain computer interfaces and bio-feedback procedures will come into focus.
Methodologically, the lab seeks connections to actor-network-theory, theories of musical mediations and to the critical neurosciences.
HAEL will fulfill a double function: it will (i) explore emerging processes and (ii) expose the epistemological form of gaining these data. The lab can be characterized as a specific arrangement of actors, of forms of expertise, technologies, parametrizations and objectivity standards.
